Mist

My legs are cold and the footpath softly
squelches as I walk down the street.
Umbrellas nudge me right and left
as I pass. The virgin sun makes
sleepy patterns on the concrete ground.
The air burrows beneath my skin
when I push my way into the swallowing wind.
The feathery rain draws about me
a white nimbus when I move into
an out-crowded distance. Then
slowing down I enter a coffee-shop
the size of my front-pocket and
its billowing chatter. My shivers
melt into the heaving bodies. And
satiated now with an anonymous energy,
again to the open! to the gentle-footed spring
and the shy, silhouetted smokey eyes of the city.

  2. No rain in Southern California, but you gave me a gentle shiver, drawing me into the coffee shop. Nice imagery.
