Hearth

Your company is always winter’s open fire where deep things rise,
Things I draw upon and become reflected in their glow.
It is not just the serrated logs I’ve added that I see there
But logs others had, even if they’re now crimson flittered ash.
What radiate from the gentle-blue core and orange arms
Are needed by you and I: the flashing and the living,
A combustion of emotions and faith, truth’s ferocity.
Even the crackles and the sparks, the translucent outlines
Of flame deserve their gleam of attention.
I find rest in this company, this energetic life.
I am staring long into its roaring heart waiting for
When wood has again to be fed, and this time maybe
I shall burn a page of my journal, feeding and burning,
Until maybe there is nothing left that has not burnt in that fire.

  1. Beautiful, vivid and so expressive. This reaches deeply into your readers, Vera. I never cease to be amazed at how perfectly you command thought and language to evoke such pure emotion. So very well done….

    1. I’m going to say what one of my blogging friends has taught me: that “now you are talking about yourself”.

      1. That’s very kind and special of you, Vera, to say. And quite meaningful to me. Many thanks my friend…I simply have to state when words move me. And your work always does.

        1. That’s one of the best compliments I’ve had. Thank you. There’s nothing that poets like you and I want more than to find words that move others.

        2. First, you are so deserving. Second, I do agree that the highest compliment a writer can receive is when she/he knows that their words have evoked feeling and emotion in another. And yours, Vera, always meet that mark.

  4. Wow… a wonderful feeling… I saw the fire, its flames, it’s core, it’s warmth, and for the first time studied it… Analysed it. Such depth Vera… sometimes I feel I should read more of poetry to make myself capable to fully unlock the meanings of the words poets like you write. You’re awesome my friend…🤘👍👍👍:-)
