The naked eyes of each other’s words
Keep us from looking away
Long after the last sentence.
We sit apart in different corners
Of the world
Silent upon our tongues.
Thoughts hold unspoken meanings
Examine every turn of phrase
Layer after layer. Sometimes,
As if you were with me, I find myself
saying, “Truth
Is so beautiful…”
Many, many years from now
I know I shall recollect this,
Where we’re here
staring — like, I at your face,
You mine
— not for anything, other than
This happened: this sitting
separate together.

People are coming into our lives
People are leaving our lives
They build on them, they cut out parts
Until we hang like rooms
Half-demolished, their wallpaper
Fraying into rags, and
Even addresses take on different
Street names, for life alone is so theatrical.
They are coming, and they are leaving;
Soon our souls will be all that are left
For knowing one another.
Brilliant composition of words of so much truth in them. All come and all go, no one is here to stay. All this is a passing show.

Somehow, while reading your poem, it first occurred to me that I am on one side of the world and you on another. joking aside, although it is a truth, you wrote so densely and feeling about comings and goings in our lives that I wonder if being apart is really being distant when a web of feelings remain intact. Of course, it’s a thought of one who believes that distance can be overcome.

So beautiful!!! I think about this often. All the comings and goings, separate togethernesses. You’ve put it so wonderfully. Cheers! 🙂

Wonderful work! I esp like “They build on them, they cut out parts
Until we hang like rooms
Half-demolished, their wallpaper
Fraying into rags”

Amazing, or like I say when I’m hiking in the woods and see something so intensely beautiful, “Wow, just wow.”

Thank you so, SO much. I think that is the best accolade anybody who loves to write can aspire to have. I didn’t know what to say for a long time.

Exactly like how your life (through numbers, for now) has taken mine away.
